Of course, I am. I think human beings have no choice but to be. Isn't that our survival instinct? The very nature of science and biology? The very thing we call human nature?
Perhaps we become less self involved when we take on a pet, or a partner or a child. But, isn't it also for them that we become a little more self involved. Aren't we a little more aware of the consequences of our actions and the positive or negative impact outside stimulus has on us and our "dependents?" Or, isn't that the way it should be? If we don't look out for ourselves and our loved ones, who will? If we aren't at all self involved, who would want to be involved with that self that doesn't want to be involved with itself? Ugh.
And as for pretension, why not be? My life would be a lot sadder if I wasn't at all pretentious.

Blogs: Evil internet cults or mutual masturbation?
Alright, guys, here I am. Erica has informed me that blogging has become a necessary part of our existence, and apparently I'm not allowed to be friends with any of you, without first filling you in on the mundane details of my day to day life. That said, I welcome you all to "The Pomp."
(Somewhere, I expect, a parade, with lots of brass and dancing produce, is beginning in my honor.)
My side of the world has remained fairly bland and unoffensive. I am finally at the point that I am willing to admit I might be a grown up and it pretty much sucks. My knees hurt when I bend them too much and my hangovers are much worse than they used to be. I have finally begun to pay off the student loans that have been haunting me for years, and I have met the man of my dreams. His name is Bill and he's fantastic. Oh, and I found out today that I get FREE car washes at Rick Case Honda. Beat that.
